Representation analysis

The Tide commercial is a representation leaning more towards females, this commercial leans towards mom's wanting an excused to get rid of their children's old clothing. This representation can be viewed in many ways in the media world. What is shown in the commercial is just a mom trying to find an excuse in the Tide product, now the commercial ends with "style is an option. Clean is not" what this is saying is that the product Tide doesn't give the option of leaving clothing stained since their results are supposed to be clean clothe after a wash. Tide's product is being viewed in this commercial as a product who doesn't seem to satisfy the mother since it doesn't leave stains in her child's clothe, many mothers would relate to the wish the mother had since they all have the same thought of getting rid of their kid's clothing, yet it could be viewed differently bu cultures, other mothers from other cultures could view it as a way for mothers finding an excuse to not wash clothe. The company's motive is for mother's to have good clean results when using their product but the commercial seems to portray the opposite of what the motive of the company is. 

The audience tends to view this representation differently and they tend to express different views, most people are aware that Tide is a cleaning product for clothe that has good results of leaving  clothe so cleaned that it might seemed as if it was never dirty in the first place, but with this commercial they are wanting to say the opposite of what they want to happened . The mother wished for the clothe to be damage instead of clean and it shows how some mothers might think and media portrays this.

On the H&M ad the genre represented is all of the ethnicity the is and the LGTB community, this ad wants to show the importance of recycling  because they can recycle clothe for new peices of clothing. The way the portray this representation if through the diversity of models from all types of skin color to shapes, gender, and ethnicity they also use the representation of hair whether its in the head or body hair. Some people strongly believe that this goes against the fashion ethics that exist, everyone has a view of clothing models they have to be a certain way or else they aren't taken serious. This representations H&M uses prove and go against the views of people and the ideas they have form the beginning , this ad is trying to show diversity  through the use of real life and not through a life we have viewed. When faced with these representations people usually don't know what to do because it gives them a sense that everything they've known was unreal and it messes up their whole view of these sort of things. 

Overall with these two companies the way they are viewed through media isn't truly what we believed "real" was but instead what we don't usually want to see or believe. Both companies show and prove the way representation is depending on the people and the diversity of it. 

Genre Research-Romance

• GENRE CONVECTIONS- CONTEXT 

Romance films are exactly what their genre describes, romance films are focused around love stories. The plot of a romance film is usually about love between two main protagonist but most romace films are usually but not limited to: love at first sight, love triangles, or even forbidden love etc. The tone and plot of romance films can vary, it can either end with a happy or tragic ending, romance films focus on evoking strong emotions towards audience, usually, audience who are female around the age of 13-18 and even older. 

EX: the appeal towards both protagonist after their contract

 The setting of most romance films are either in schools, the beach, cities , or even a local dinner. The setting helps these films by setting what people would call a "romantic" atmosphere the mains protagonist  would be put in. Most of the setting in romance films are used to set the mood, the setting also depends on what kind of romance movie we are looking at.Most plots in romance films start with two protagonist who have nothing to do with each other at first but then the more they get to know each other they gradually start falling in love and depending on the type of romance film they either end together or are doomed to be separated forever.

EX: The setting of the beach is to give the sense of happiness and to get out of one's life 

They are many common characters in many genres of film,but, the main commons characters in romance films are the female or male lead, the bestfriend, the love interest, the family, and the love rival. In romance films the protagonist usually meets their love interest through thesetting they are placed in or through their friends. In these stories the context of the "normal" life of the main character is changed because they are usually encountered with a tragic event or due to having a tragic past in which they have to make a decision of being with the ones they love or leaving them in order to not hurt others. Throughout these stories the main character usually tries to neglect what they feel towards their love interest due to feeling scared of falling in love or because they think they aren't right for each other. Later on in the story, the main character gradually starts falling for their love interest because they stop all judgement they had for them.

• GENRE CONVENTIONS- PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES 

The production techniques are utiized in order to achieve the theme of love in romance films, this creates an emotional appeal towards the audience in order to create a connection in which the audience is able to feel a connection with the film.

There is a huge emphasis on the important use of mice-en-scene, which includes the set design, location ,and costume design these production techniques helps developed the romantic theme that is being created in these films. Sound is also very important technique used, the use of sound helps develop the mood of both the character and of the film. These techniques help understand the setting and the character so the audience is able to understand how the character is and where the story is being developed.

EX: The costume designs in The Titanic helps identify who is part of high socitey and who isn't

The use of color also helps understand the film better and how it develops, ex if a scene has lots of blue it might mean that the film is getting to an emotional part. Color can alter the mood of a film to make it happier or sadder.

Grease

The movie Grease is a good example of a romance film. This film elaborates a love story in which the male and female lead encounter problems with their relationship, The two protagonist in the film come from two different worlds in which one is cool and hadnsome while the other one is very reserved, the setting of this feel is mostly in a school and a diner, both protagonist face the difference between both of them as they want to have their love story progress but it seems quite impossible. The struggle both characters live through is of them wanting each other but having been separated by the change they have to go through as their life develops. Having the preassure of their friends leads them both to change who they are in order to fit in. Their whole story is based on the pressure of them wanting to be who they are but they can't due to them changing and pretending to be who they are not. The costume design progresses through the film as the characters change, sandy's character changes drastically, her love for Danny makes her see that he has changed and that he is no longer the boy he met on the beach but someone different so she had to changed in order to be noticed by him and having for herself. Through the use of mise-en-scene and of color the audience is able to develop a sence of integrity as they watch the film, it's almost as if they were part of the film too. The contrast of color in their costume design between Sandy and Danny show the difference in them, Sandy wears lights colors giving a sence of pureness and innocence while Danny wear dark colors to represent his coolness and his drastic change from a boy to a man.

The Last SongJulie Anne Anderson2010

The Last Song is introduced as our female leads is on her way to spend a summer at her dad's after she's done an illegal act. Our female lead has a huge family struggle between her parents divorced. She is introduced from her normal living to having to develop a new bond between father and daughter as she encounters her summer fling. This film develops a beautiful love story between two people who have different lives as they try to live their love for each other, but their love doesn't developed at first as the female lead first find the male protagonist as a regular playboy who only wnats fun. Our female protagonist also deals with the stuggle of a hard family past she's never been able to recover from which leads her to having trust issues. The setting of the fillm which is at the beahc, develops that sense of wanting to get away of their regular lifes and live in a sort of dream worl of their own. As both our main leads start getting closer and closer with each other their feeling start to developed, as they both like each other there is a big struggle for them due to the female lead having rival and having friends that backstab them. The biggest issue for both of them is the family problems the love interest has due to them disliking the main lead because she isn't part of a wealthy family. The bright colors of the set design create a loving and happy atmosphere for our leads which develops the plot as the film continues. The use of sound is really important becasue it lets the audience knows the moment sad parts are coming or the moment happy moments are coming. As the story progesses the struggle of our female lead being with someone she loved developed to not being able to trust him. The mise-en-scene is deeply thought as it allows the audience to know which place the lead runs off to when she's sad or when she wants to think. The film overall captures the essence of romance through the use of music and the use of mise-en-scene, this film develops the love strugle that is going through the movie as our characters fall in love yet also falls out of love.
